Firoz Mahmud  |  `Loss of the Toss is Blessing of Their Disguise`  |  Dhaka Art Center
Opening Reception: 6.30 PM on 3 September   (open till 12 Sep)

Dhaka Art Center Presents Firoz Mahmud’s solo exhibition `Loss of the Toss is Blessing of Their Disguise` opening on Saturday, September 3, 2013. The exhibition will continue until September 12, 2013.
`Loss of the Toss is Blessing of Their Disguise` is an external part of  `NinKi: Urgency of Proximate Drawing [NinKi: UoPD]` photograph project on controversial celebrities. The photograph  Drawing series are on disputed celebrities, tendentious and black history of entertainment industries. Primarily I started the drawing photograph on Bengal tiger as part of Halcyon Tarp Project and at the same time on Sumo wrestler as many Japanese popular sumo wrestlers are involved with controversy.  `Ninki` is a Japanese word, means Popular since my project is on popular icons. I take photo of the celebrities or collect as found objects from magazines, billboards and advertisements. Their idolized appearances are highlighted by protective line drawings that display an awareness of the per-formative ethos of iconic expression. The drawing line structure underneath the falling position imply that stardom can`t fall down from the gestures and positions that they are held in. I am rescuing them from their predictable danger. Celebrities including Sumo wrestlers, musicians, sportsmen or politicians or from entertainment industries whose activities and character are anarchistic and individualized and all have been blemished by controversy for one reason or another. For the Dhaka Art Center exhibition, installation, photograph, sculpture, object and Urgency of Proximate Drawing photograph will be on display.
